How to squat with perfect form
A good squat is mostly about a few basics done consistently: brace, sit between your hips, keep your knees tracking over your toes, and hit depth without losing your back position. Here is the short version you can actually remember under the bar.
Set your stance and brace
Stand about shoulder width apart with toes turned out slightly. Take a big breath into your belly and brace as if bracing for a light punch. That air is what keeps your spine stable through the rep.
Sit down, not just back
Break at the hips and knees together and drop straight down between your feet. Aim for the crease of your hip to reach at least parallel with the top of your knee. Drive the floor away to stand back up, keeping your chest proud.
Common mistakes
The three that show up most: knees caving inward, heels lifting, and cutting depth short. Filming a single set from the side makes all three obvious in seconds.
FAQ
How do I know if I am deep enough?
When the crease of your hip drops to or below the top of your kneecap, you have hit parallel. Filming from the side is the easiest way to check.
Why do my knees cave in?
Usually weak or lazy glutes. Cue "spread the floor" and push your knees out in line with your toes.
