How to fix knees caving in during squats
Knees drifting inward, known as valgus, robs power and stresses the joint. It is almost always a cueing and strength issue, not something you are stuck with.
Why it happens
The knees follow the hips. When the glutes do not fire hard enough to hold the thighs out, the knees collapse toward each other, especially out of the bottom.
Three fixes
One: cue "knees out, spread the floor" on every rep. Two: add a light band around the knees so you feel the correct path. Three: strengthen the glutes directly with bridges and lateral work.
FAQ
Is knee cave dangerous?
A slight, controlled movement under light load is common. A hard collapse under heavy load is worth fixing before you add weight.
